Year Round Swim Team FAQs
Summer Swim Team FAQs
Year Round Swim Team Frequently Asked Questions
- Can I sign up for the year round swim team after practice starts?
- Yes, subject to availability in the group in which you are registering.
You can participate for one month or any months that you choose.
Please complete the registration documents and give them to the coach.
-
- Can I participate on the year round swim team if I am not registered with
USA Swimming?
- No. All swimmers must be registered, even if they are just practicing
and do not plan to attend swim meets. Swimmers may not practice with the
team until their USA Swimming registration is complete.
-
- Can I swim with the year round swim team for PE credit?
- Yes, the swim team is approved for a Category II PE equivalency for Lake
Travis ISD middle and high school students. Please see your school counselor
for more information and contact the coach to
complete your paperwork. Swimmers must participate in swimming for five
hours a week during the entire semester to receive credit.
-
- Should I come to practice if it's raining or cold?
- The City of Lakeway closes the Swim Center in the event of heavy rain,
lightning, thunder, and freezing temperatures. If we know in advance that the pool is closing or
closed, we will post information on the team's Web site. If your child is
at practice and you hear thunder or see lightning in the area, please assume
that practice has been canceled and pick him or her up.
-
- The practice time for my swimmer isn't convenient. Can s/he attend
another practice?
- No. Swimmers are assigned to practice groups based on ability. Having
swimmers in the wrong group isn't productive for the swimmer who moved or
the swimmers in the group. Swimmers must attend their scheduled practice
time.
-
- Is there a minimum level of participation?
- Yes. We believe that swimmers benefit most from the program from regular
attendance. Swimmers in Groups 1a & 1b are encouraged to participate two
times a week. Practice is available to swimmers in Groups 2 & 3 five days a
week. Swimmers in Group 2 are encouraged to participate at least three times
a week and swimmers in Group 3 are encouraged to participate at least four
times a week.
-
- Is attendance at meets required?
- Swimmers in Groups 1a & 1b will participate in intrasquad meets at the
Lakeway Swim Center during regular practice times. Swimmers in Groups 2 & 3
are strongly encouraged to participate in meets for which they are eligible.
Meet eligibility will be communicated to team members via the team's Web
site.
-
- How do I get my team suit?
- You can purchase the team suit at
Lane Four Swim Shop
in Austin or by using the online link. The team suit is the girls Speedo "Victory Splice" proback in
black/purple and boys Speedo "Quantum Spliced" jammer in black/purple.
-
- How do I sign up for meets?
- You'll receive a meet information packet and sign-up sheet by e-mail
about two weeks before a meet. If you want to participate, return the
sign-up sheet with payment by the announced date. If you do not want to
participate, you don't need to do anything. Make checks payable to Lakeway
Swimming Inc.
-
- I signed up for a meet, but now I can't attend. Or, I missed my
events at a meet. Can I get a refund?
- Unfortunately, no. The team pays meet entry fees to the hosting club in
advance of the meet. If a swimmer cannot participate, the team cannot get or
issue a refund.
- I need to stop swimming for a month or for the season. What should I
do? How can I rejoin the team?
- Please inform the coach first. All you need to do to stop
swimming is to stop paying your dues. If you want to rejoin the team, please
inform the team manager and begin paying your monthly dues again.
- How can I pay my monthly dues?
- Please checks payable to Lakeway Swimming Inc. and place them in the
locked Lakers mailbox at the Swim Center. The mailbox is mounted on the wall
to the right as you walk through the front gate. You can also mail your
check to the team's address (P.O. Box 341955, Austin, TX 78734) or give your
check to the coach. If you are paying after the fifth of the month,
please add the $10 late fee.
- Do I need to try out before joining the team?
- If you have participated on a previous summer or year round team in the
past year, you do not need to do a tryout. If you have never been on a
Lakers team, please contact the coach to schedule
a tryout during regular practice. A parent or guardian must stay with
swimmers doing tryouts. Also, you must sign a
Waiver/Release of Liability form before swimming. Tryouts are free.
Swimmers must have goggles to try out.
- I need goggles and a swimcap. Does the team sell these items?
- Yes. Please see the team manager.

Summer Swim Team Frequently Asked Questions
- Can I sign up for the summer swim team after practice starts?
- Possibly. Our team caps its overall enrollment and enrollment within
specific age groups to prevent overcrowding and to make maximum usage of our
pool time. Contact the coach to inquire about
openings after the start of practice.
- I can't work at three swim meets. Can my child still participate?
- No. We rely on parents to run our swim meets and do not make exceptions to
the required parent participation of working three meets. You might consider
the year round swim team, as it does not have a parent participation
requirement.
-
- Can I participate on the summer swim team if I am not a Lakeway
resident?
- Yes.
-
- I changed my mind and don't want to be on swim team. Can I get a
refund?
- No. The majority of our team's costs are fixed and prepaid. There are no
refunds issued for changing your mind or due to a change in schedule.
- My child suffered an injury and can't swim any longer. Can I get a
refund?
- Possibly. You can make a formal request to the coach for a
medical refund. All medical problems must be documented by a licensed physician.
Refunds are based on the prorated amount that the team has not yet spent on
the swimmer's behalf, as most of the team's costs are fixed and prepaid. The
potential refund amount will vary depending on when the injury occurs.
Accepting a refund for a medical reason will terminate the swimmer's
registration on the team and as such, the swimmer may not later rejoin the
team or receive any awards.
-
- The designated practice time isn't convenient. Can I practice with
another group?
- Swimmers need to come at their designated practice times. We can make
slight adjustments so siblings come at the same practice, but only if they
are close in swimming ability. We are not able to move beginning swimmers
into advanced groups and vice versa. Please talk to a coach or the team
manager if you need to discuss changes.
- I have a camp during my regular practice time. Can I come to practice early?
- Yes, one lane will be designated for swimmers needing to swim early due
to camp conflicts. Swimmers can come to practice from 7:30-8:30 instead of
at their regular practice time if they have conflicts with camps.
-
- Do I need to come to practice every day?
- Swimmers are encouraged to practice every day but this is not required.
You do not need to notify the team of absences. Swimmers who attend practice
on a regular schedule will benefit more from the program.
- Am I required to participate in every meet?
- Swimmers must be able to participate in at least three meets during the
season. The team does not offer a "practice-only" membership.
- My child needs to leave a meet early. What should I do?
- We understand that many kids are still participating in soccer,
baseball, and other activities during swim season. Please note the time that
your child needs to leave in the Swim Meet Notebook at the pool and we will
sign up your child for only those events that he or she will be there for.
If you are working at the same meet, please make sure to find another parent
to take over your duties when you leave, and notify your volunteer
coordinator of the change.
- We'll be on vacation and will need to miss some practice time and
maybe a meet. Is this OK?
- Yes.
-
- How do I sign up for summer swim meets?
- Please put a check mark by your name in the Swim Meet Notebook at the
pool by the Tuesday prior to a Saturday meet. If you will not be attending a
meet, you do not need to do anything.
-
- I forgot to sign up for a meet. Can I still participate?
- Yes, but only if you check in to the meet by the designated time, and
only if there are open lanes in which to enter you into your events.
Generally, there are few open lanes. You will probably not be able to swim
your usual events--and you might not be able to swim at all if there are no
open lanes. Our league does not allow for the creation of new heats or for
swimmers to swim in events outside of their age group or gender.
- I signed up for a meet but now I can't attend. What should I do?
- Please contact the coach as soon as
possible so we can scratch you from the meet and rework any relay teams that
you were scheduled to participate on.
-
- Can I participate on the summer swim team if I am not registered with
USA Swimming?
- Yes. The summer swim team is part of the Austin Hills Swim League. All
swimmers on the summer swim team are registered with the AHSL automatically
when they pay their registration fee.
-
- Should I come to practice if it's raining or cold?
- The City of Lakeway closes the Swim Center in the event of heavy rain,
lightning, or thunder. If we know in advance that the pool is closing or
closed, we will attempt to contact team members via email. If your child is
at practice and you hear thunder or see lightning in the area, please assume
that practice has been canceled and pick him or her up.
- How do I get my team suit?
- You can purchase the team suit at
Lane Four Swim Shop

a tryout during regular practice. A parent or guardian must stay with
swimmers doing tryouts. Also, you must sign a
Waiver/Release of Liability form before swimming. Tryouts are free.
